There are also a ton of 'western' companies that use microtransactions in their 'free-to-play' games. Dungeon Runners, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Battlefield Heroes, etc. How is that any different to Evony?

To be fair, other games tend to be upfront about the micropayments and don't go about saying it's "free forever" when a lot of game requires microtransations to play properly.

But yeah, it's just the same model.

Bruce mentioned there'll be additional costs IF it does go to court. Shank asked why does he need money NOW and there was no answer.

Bruce, can you please tell us what's the money for now? If it doesn't go to court are you going to refund donations?

According to comments on his blog people have already started donating money...

What Bruce should do is not ask for donations for eight days, to build an emotional connection. Then he could start charging micropayments to his supporters, e.g. 25p for a blog comment, 50p to send him an email, etc.

I'm sure bruce would have sold some of his classic cars to fund this before asking the general public to cough up.

The way this is heading, he would end up doing that before this is over.

    Waaaaaaaaaaaait a minute.

According to his blog, Bruce's lawyers aren't acting pro bono at all. They're acting on a no-win no-fee basis. That is very, very different indeed!

Bruce, I think it'd be a really good idea to clear up what you need the money for and exactly what it will be spent on (and when). Asking people to give you money under slightly dubious circumstances is, well, not very wise perhaps? And I hope you've considered the tax implications.

I'm pretty sure that fundraising under false pretenses is illegal in the uk.

Well, I'm pretty sure of that too, but without being certain, and without being certain that's what he's doing, I'm not about to make any accusations.

I do think the situation needs clarification though.

Which is it, pro bono or no-win no-fee? Because if the latter and you're openly stating you can't afford them... wow. That's brave.

Suuuurely 'no win no fee' is a payment model for plaintiffs not defendants. Think about it. If Bruce wins the case all he gets is maybe his legal fees recovered. Is he putting in a counter-claim?

It is no win no fee.
And in libel it is fairly frequently used by defendants.

I have a six page letter from them about fees.
Donations are going to their client account.
No tax impications as I am just fund raising.

OK well having Googled there do seem to be solicitors using NWNF for defendents (http://www.thelawyer.com/david-pric...fee-libel-victory-for-defendant/97665.article) but I'm still in the dark as to how it is supposed to make money for the solicitors.

If the chance of victory is 50%, and the chance of getting fees fully refunded on victory is 50%, the solicitor has a 25% chance of having his/her fees paid, and these fees would be market-rate fees, so it is a bit like working for 25% of salary.

For plaintiffs of course the odds are tipped by the chance of a big payout on victory, which is why it works there.

Would you be kind enough to share that letter with the people you expect to pony up mullah?

You've been kind enough to share many other letters that were sent your way.

I can't help but think that if Bruce was up against an orphanage that grinds down the weaker children into mince to feed the others that the way he goes about it we'd start saying "it's a shame that they don't have more money for food, but what else can they do ...bugger off"
