Sorry for the long post ... but I am that type of guy.


I have checked out the Facebook group ... which only has 20 members, and I have looked at the various comments made by Bruce on his website and his Facebook group and I have come up with two possible conclusions.

1). He hasn't actually played the game at all and is being bullied by a 14 year old into taking the case because the 14 year old lost his lunch money.

2). Bruce actually played the game and ended up having to re-mortgage his house because he couldn't control himself any longer. He the became one of those sad people you hear about all the time, who die well playing WoW or something like that, and now he is trying to recoup his costs.


Bruce, once again I don' really know you, but you have quite blatantly ignored many comments and advice given to you and seem to have "selective memory syndrome".

If I were you, I would gracefully bow out of this thread and do one of two things.

1). Completely call off this lawsuit and bow-out gracefully.

2). Do some better research (after all you are the one who "Twice in my career I have joined a start-up computer games company — first Imagine, then Codemasters — in the senior marketing role and helped each to become the best-selling publisher in the UK in its first year of trading.") and try again when you have better proof.


From what I have seen, you have done nothing but provide Evony with ammunition to make their lawsuit against you ("Evony is suing me. If you want to help, please donate to my fighting fund...") even stronger byt your complete lack of understanding how the game works.

I have played the game, I joined an Alliance and even spent some money to buy a Town Teleporter to get my Town closer to my Alliance Leader's town. I took my settlement way past the 7 day limit and when I decided I had had enough I packed it up ... there was no emotional attachment and I didn't think the world was coming to an end because I stopped playing.


Your article about Evony being Malware is completely off the point and you clearly have no understanding of how Flash actually works. In your comment there you immediately hit the race card ... "Obviously legitimate western games like Runescape and Habbo can be trusted. But what about games from Chinese gold farmers like Evony and Empire Craft?" ... are you a part of the BNP.

Anyway back on to Flash ... there is a little setting in both your Browser and Flash that has all kinds of Security settings on it ... go here to check yours: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html ... if you have the security turned off then you really need to consider un-installing the Flash plug-in and maybe putting your computer behind a firewall.


Then you go on in your articles to attack old people: "But the old people who are in charge of the media don’t understand games. So firstly I will do some explaining." ... ummm ... how old are you and what do you consider old?

I doubt many of the Editors and Editor in Chiefs of the various organisations are that Old ... hell I am 34 and I have been using computers for most of that ... so I am not sure what you construe as old.


You then excuse Evony of spamming your site but the whois record points to a company in the U.S ... so much for your Chinese connection. Anyway ... I may be wrong ... but it is just my observation.


Please note this is based on the posts I have read so far and is not intended as a personal attack on you. Right so what is the point of this darn post ... well it is simple and can be summed up as follows.

1). You seem to be a very angry man filled with hate or resentment for anything that is not part of the West and I am sorry that you have become so bitter.

2). You have no idea about how Evony actually works and seem to be completely fixated on certain parts of the game without actually seeing the bigger picture.

3). You have done no further research into the technologies that are being used and have seemed to do nothing but slander Evony at every point ... although you still haven't been able to convince us why.


In a nutshell, if I was Evony ... I would be suing you too.

Anyway ... I have rambled on enough and will probably get flamed to hell for this post ... but as the French say: "c'est la vie".

p.s. Please don't pick on me because I used French, my father is from the Seychelles and I might not fit into your Western rule that you seem to be applying to your dealings with people.

In all honesty I just don't get the time to really play any games on it ... I tend to use it as a DVD player more then a Games Console in my study.

I only own like 6 games anyway ... and 3 of them came with the console ... ... anyway it does play DVDs pretty well ... damn I am so sad.

 

ugh no way! the xbox's dvd playback capabilities are worse than the cheap-ass £30 dvd player i used to have!

I long for the day when everyone except me plays evony, at which point MAYBE they will take their annoying fucking ads and shove them up their own ass.
Now they jitter around, flash on and off and flash WARNING over them.
I wouldnt be surprised to find the evony website installing all kinds of crap. Their ads are the same kind that scream "do not click! malware ahead!"

I need to apologise to Bruce here on this regard.

He sent me the information he is talking about regarding the malicious code and rather interesting network traffic.

This morning in a little experiment, I loaded up the software and hooked up a sniffer to my network ... there is definitely something interesting going on here.

That's the sad thing about this. You MAY have a point burried somewhere underneath all the nonsense you're spouting about the Chinese taking over the internet, perfectly legal micro-transactions and anti-Semitic user generated game content.

You still made tons of statements about them that can land you in legal hot water.

It is in English. So obviously it isn't designed for the Chinese market.

As for going to the police. So I try and explain to them that there may or may not be a trojan in the client of a browser MMO written in Flash.
You think they teach them how to deal with this down at the lodge?

Or, fuck it, I don't know - send it to McAfee, Norton, all the anti-virus companies. They'll know the legal bodies to talk to - anyone identified as doing something criminal will be of great interest to them, and they'll deal with this kind of thing all the time.
