Isn't the example you present is user created content (I can't tell for sure as I never played it)? It's a bit like saying Facebook is anti-semitic if someone opens a nazi group on it. Do you have proof beyond the screenshot that the Nazi thingie remained in the game and NOT removed by a moderator/GM/whatever after complaints?

This is exactly the sort of thing you'll need to prove in court and exactly why you landed in this mess. Maybe you do need to learn your lesson.

 

Sorry to be thick - what's gold farming?

 

In a game like World of Warcraft you need to make gold to buy gear, items and useless crap. That results in boring repetitive tasks to collect gold. Killing lots of creatures, doing quests and collecting resources you can then sell.

Most companies forbid selling gold for real cash, but it doesn't stop it from happening. Most gold farmers are apparently chinese. People who play the game solely to farm gold and then sell it for cash on-line (by mailing the gold in-game between characters). A lot of account thefts are by gold sellers.

If Evony sells resources for cash to its own players then it's NOT gold farming and Bruce is mixing up his terminology which is NOT going to help his case if it gets to court.

Attached is an audit trail of my communication with Evony support. I don’t know if you want to blog about this or not. (I would like to keep my name private).
I just thought I should tell someone in the public spotlight of the willful disregard for the antisemitism found on Evony’s gaming community. I have written to Evony over 1 month ago, and they still refuse to take this character down. There has been several communications I have written, but all I get is their canned message that someone will look into it.
In my opinion, this is blatant promotion of hate for jews with no action on Evon’y part at all. I have attached two screen shots.

I find that you allow someone to name an alliance \”Nazi\” very offensive. If you want people to join the Evony community then you need to hire someone to do some prudent censorship. You want us to write a review? How about if someone wrote a review that you allow hate speak and anti semitisim on your servers? How would that be for a review?! I should not have to accidentally stumble on to this. There should be some filters already in place.

That looks to me more like incompetence/lazyness rather than deliberate anti-semitism. Stick to what you can prove in court. You're relying on someone who wants to remain nameless (which means he won't be there to support you in court) and a screenshot which could be manipulated in photoshop and therefore I don't think will work as court evidence.

You're all over the place attacking Envony without actually bothering to get rock solid evidence on any aspect of it.

 

Using your bizarre definition of "The company that runs the game sells the players ingame currency" for "goldfarming", then FarmVille, which has over 60 million active players, and is made by that lovely pure, white, Western company Zynga begs to differ. In fact, all of Zynga's games work on the principle that you can buy in-game currency. I don't see you screaming and crying over them.

 

Also, Bruce, this being in the open forums, the Evony legal team are probably reading this thread and getting lots of ammo to use against you as a whole bunch of us poke big holes in your arguments. I'd advise you to stop digging your own grave asap, much as it is entertaining to watch.

Then there is the online gambling content of Evony. You can buy in game cents for real money, $10 real money = 100 Evony cents. You can use cents for many things including buying Amulets. An Amulet costs 5 Evony cents or 50 cents real money. It allows you one spin of a roulette wheel on which you are gambling to win in game items.

I'm not saying Evony isn't using spammy tactics, but you ARE all over the place with this one. None of this is definite evidence for you to sign your name on. You absorb lots of anti-Evony information and fill in the blanks with assumptions to make statements you can't prove in court. Not a good idea.

1. Rubbish. Of course they do. And those that don't, probably just don't think they could get away with it. If I could make a game that had one button, "Give Me Money", and every time someone clicked it they gave me money, and I could get 10 million people playing it, damn straight I'd be selling that game. Evony has 10 million players? That's a damning condemnation of the idiocy of 10 million people, not a damning condemnation of Evony. Funnily enough I'd make the same comment about WoW... I can't imagine a more boring way of spending my time and money, but hey, horses for courses, if that's what people want to play...

2. Rubbish. Of course they do. I get tens of spam emails a day promising (among the v14gr4, free pr0n and p3n15 extensions) gambling sites and games.

3. So you're saying that game developers should be held accountable for UGC? Have you played Halo 3 online lately? It's full of mostly-American mostly-teenagers griefing, trash-talking and being racist. Yes, you can report complaints, and you can block such people so you don't play against them again, but it's still there - the game can only be held responsible for the behaviour of its players to a very limited extent. But you single out Evony as tolerating racism while lambasting them for their Chinese origins? Maybe they're not doing enough. I don't know, they should certainly be doing something. But maybe one email chain from one "anonymous" guy with one screenshot isn't enough to draw that conclusion.

Are we sure this isn't just another windup? Bruce gets to generate controversy, traffic for his blog (therefore advertising money), AND a big donate button with a mysterious end location. Didn't he post a load of articles supposedly about "marketing" a long time ago with exactly that sort of advice in it?

Your evidence sucks. I won't be giving evony my ten pounds for their fighting funds - its an open and shut case for them so why should I bother? And I still haven't visited your site! Btw - has anyone ever seen Tim Langdell and Bruce Everiss in the same room at the same time?
