Man, tough choice. This is a high barrier to entry. I have to choose my favorite character?

Does it have to be a character I've played? Or maybe a Unicode character? What about a public character I've played, like Sonic the Hedgehog? Does it have to be a videogame character? What about books or movies? I know! Gollum makes a great character, for the books or movies, and he's been in some videogames by now too!

How Long to get into Private Forums?

How long does it usually take to get vetted? Is this done regularly and consistently these days? (It's only been a couple days for me, I'm not concerned yet, just curious.)

I just saw some old stuff on the front page which seemed to imply it could take months ... which would seem like a good recipe for people totally forgetting about this site and not being interested in still joining. =)

Maybe you (whoever 'you' are) are happy with the number of people already here and not looking to grow numbers much, but it seems like prompt vetting would let people in while they are still excited to join.

 

Patience is a virtue, whatever that means.

Actually what's happening is there's a huge bitching thread on the private forums about you, we're just waiting for it to run its course and then delete it before you're allowed in.

We have plans for the future to sort things out, but time is a big problem, (as always). Right now, memberships are vetted by hand mostly by yours truly. I get a lot of requests a month and it takes a fair amount of time to pile through them. I usually have to let them pile up for a week+ and then go through them all at once over a weekend.

Our vetting rules are really important to the members here. We even took a vote 12 months ago to make sure we were doing the right thing; the vote was pretty much unanimous. Our members expect us to be gatekeepers as it were, and on the whole we've done a good job I think. Obviously, some undesirables have probably got through but if they are here, we don't hear from them. It's for this reason that we're reluctant to start any kind of 'automatic' membership, even for vouches. All is takes is one fanboy and they'll let all and sundry on TCE.... That was the biggest problem with FB and in fact why I started this place.

So, until we sort things out in a better way I don't see memberships being done any faster. I apologize for that, and then again I don't if you know what I mean ;-) This is a volunteer effort after all.
