Evony

Well, E3 is a once-a-year event and in general I don't see ads as blatant as the Evony ones for any games, regardless of origin. There was that Saints Row thing, possibly? and there was a Need for Speed thing I think... but in general ads for games don't stoop so low.

The only women in the game are shown as face portaits!

Most of the HOO HAA seems to be based around what evilness they could do rather than are doing. It just reads like a load of Daily Mail scaremongering right now ("DO YOU WANT CHINESE GOLD FARMERS TO HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR MACHINE!")

I'm not exactly sure even what Bruce is saying here.

What do you want to do about this Bruce? Surely the market will sort this out eventually, if it's something people do not want them it won't thrive.

 

I just want the word to get out so that people know what is going on. Then they are in a position to make their own mind up instead of just being scammed.

The Chinese have a good opportunity here to clean up their act, put their house in order and become a part of the legitimate game publishing community. I hope they do this.

But in the meantime what they are doing stinks. They are ripping people off and spamming my blog.

What the hell has this got to do with the Chinese (in general, as opposed to the few people running this company who apparently happen to be Chinese)? Two billion people in China and there's at least one dodgy company there? Holy shit, who'd have thought it!

All those penis enlargement pills are a scam too, y'know. Happily they represent a chance for the Americans to become a legitimate part of the pharmaceuticals industry!

It's weird; had I come across this thing by chance I might have been a little miffed about it, but hearing your baseless and racist rants on the subject has actually made me rather sympathetic towards them.

Hang on...maybe that's your plan? Maybe you did take them up on their offer of doing PR and marketing and using your "status in the industry" to make people like them more. Wow. You might actually be a marketing genius. My hat's off to you!

 

There is this forum post from an Evony user: “Something happened this morning. Just when i logged in my account to play Evony, my Anti-Virus detected 4 trojans horse in explorer.exe. They came right when i entered my server. I am no expert about virus so I don<t know what happened there. Any help on the forum would be great as i do not want to join that server again until some admin tells me its clean. Took me 3 hours to clean my computer.”

And another one: “Hello, i would like to inform ye that your site is infested with Adaware. http://www.pctools.com/mrc/infection…e.Mostofate.E/ Every time i log onto evony this comes as part of it. I have tried it several times, deleting it THEN just opening up evony and presto its back on my Computer. Its the “monitors the users browsing activity.” that im not paticulary fond of !”

I have lifelong Chinese friends, some of whom I happen to be meeting next month in Hong Kong. I have been to China many times over the years and have a very high respect for their people and culture.

I have even built up a nice collection of Chinese snuff bottles over the years, all bought in either China or Hong Kong. These are amazingly intricate painted on the inside with enormous skill.

 

Bruce you must be on the payroll. I salute you sir for good work on raising awareness of Evony. Is it any good?

 

If you were to use Google Alerts to track the search term Evony then 5 days ago you would have seen that most new web content about the game was positive. Now that has done a quick 180 and just about 100% of what Alerts tells me about Evony is negative.

A marketing success that will teach them not to spam my blog.

Are you saying that the quality of awareness matters over the scale of it? Isn't there a risk that many more people will now try the game because it's becoming a mini-scandal.

 

If they do, knowing it is designed to take their money and may well infect their computer with malware, that is fine.

But a week ago people were joining thinking it was benign, like Habbo, Maple Story, Club Penguin etc.

 

I'm not racist either. Some of my best captive servants are foreigners / aliens. And anyway they shouldn't be allowed to talk to us.
