    He provided me with lulz.

I was a bit miffed there was talk of a vote, in a process that would shame North Korea.

To some extent, yes. Have you noticed how in many games that include sniping, the crosshair is automatically wobbled around to add an element of skill? This is the same idea, but connects the wobbling around aspect to the player's physiology.

If you don't like that idea, let's imagine it being used in a similar way in a darts game. Those often have a wobbly cursor and rely on you to 'throw' the dart when the cursor is over the correct part of the board. Well, you could use the player's heart rate to reduce the amount of wobbling.

I'm not saying it's a world changing idea, but it's a game that could be improved using the peripheral in discussion.

Well it should have had its own thread, not been in the middle of a thread on Irrelevant Corner. I missed it, although I see I did post on that thread.

It seems you can vote for someone to be banned, but not vote against. Doesn't seem that open or fair to me.

Well, it's not a democracy or anything, nor does it need to be.

OK let's stop talking about completely open votes and such then.

I was thinking that you don't need any artificial wobble (assuming it's a wiimote used as a light gun) and all the heart beat related stuff would happen just as it would with a real gun.

Well, all I meant was it wasn't secret or anything.

I'm not going to get into an extended debate about this, as I don't think it really merits it. But here's my basic view on it (and bans in general).

This is a board owned and run by somebody, largely for no reason other than enthusiasm, and as we know, often at financial cost to themselves. Said person ultimately decides whether or not to ban people unilaterally, though in many cases, said person does actually solicit opinions from people, and take them into account.

I think that all adds up to a pretty generous approach with a lot of latitide. Bans are actually pretty rare here.

And finally, "I / We quite liked those posts" doesn't really add up to much, I think. Everyone will have their adherents. I don't think forums like this are, or should be, popularity contests; it's possible to be a very popular complete arse who is actually really toxic to the community, for example. And that's what it is; a community. It's not unreasonable to expect people to attempt to make some kind of positive contribution. And it's completely fine, I think, for the board's owner to decide "no, this isn't what I want on my board".

Now, in the case of Bruce, nobody can credibly claim he wasn't annoying a lot of people, including the board's owner, and nobody can credibly claim he wasn't given every opportunity to start behaving more constructively. He's been cut an enormous amount of slack.

I take your point, but I don't really agree. I don't think that the wiimote, for example, is sensitive enough to be affected by a heartbeat.

Either way, I was just trying to provide an example of gameplay that could be interestingly combined with the device. If you don't think it would be very interesting, that's fair enough.

It could be interesting in multiplayer. Some intense VS game where you get more rewards and power ups if your keep your heartbeat down. So have an intense fight but you try to remain cool throughout. That could actually transfer to useful real life skills.

It'll obviously be useless on-line as people can easily cheat. Connect the heartbeat reader to your sister who's read a book while you play...

Wasn't there a Tetris-like game a while back doing something similar? The lower your heart-rate, the slower things fell, so if you kept calm the game was manageable and when you panicked it went to hell. Apparently it got withdrawn because some kids had managed to train themselves to slow their heartrate to a dangerous level.

Anyone got a link? Or am I making it up?
