Ah Danielle...kinda jumping into the lions den a bit posting info on a company and game in a pro developers forums....but ok I'll bite...

lets have a google.

oh an fps.....set in 2012, zombies, aliens, buxom chicks, and ermmm...

not very inspiring is it?
Always nice to hear of Indie developers producing their 1st project, but this really does look like a 1st project, flat, dull predictable and totally lacking in imagination..

To their credit- they've made a game (mod) and by the sounds of it, managed to see it to the end- to finish it.

This alone puts them well above the vast majority of people who simply want to get into the industry or are wasting their time/money doing Train2Game- regardless of the final product, I applaud their efforts.

And to paraphrase an old Kit-Kat advert, "an fps.....set in 2012, zombies, aliens, buxom chicks... you'll go a long way!"

 

Its the "game of 2011" thing that pisses me off..all hype and so so substance. We're kinda past that I think and it needs to be addressed.

I have no time for BS really, it seems a decent little game, written by dedicated people but it offers nothing new or original. So more, try our game and less Best thing ever BS.

 

It can't possibly be the game of the year - it doesn't have a puppy you can click on to form an emotional bond with.

or will you raise it to be evil?

Right click good? left click evil? you should be able to explore the depths of your own morality with your mouse.


Seriously though - I think the only problem with the post is they've actually done what they've been told. every time I read anything about promoting your own game it basically tells you to turn the hype & bullshit dial up to 11 and run in screaming that you are the bestest thing ever. I've not really seen many articles that advise humility. But hey-ho... at least they seem to be taking advice in some form or another, which is more than some folks do.

 

It depends on your intent.

If this is a hobby project, I'd say thumbs up on the hard work and congrats on being able to keep a team together well enough to complete something.

If it's a portfolio piece and it came across my desk, I'd ask your programmers about performance/memory trade-offs, optimization, how the work load is split up, and I'd dig into how specific systems were implemented. It's one thing to implement something, it's another to implement it well.

If this is something to be sold (can it be? I actually don't know), I'd say your trailer needs to do more to pop out. Nothing in particular makes me say, "Wow I should keep an eye on this." If you've got a hook (which I'm assuming you do), throw it in there and dress it up all pretty like.

Anyways, good luck and keep cranking away at it.

 

I'm a bit more forgiving on that front, its their first game and they're excited about it ... what are they meant to do trumpet its arrival by proudly saying "Well its not as good as Call of Duty, but we're hoping to improve in the future" ? ... that might be true, they might even be realistic enough to realize that BUT they do want people to download and play it and if they say that few will (and without constructive feedback they'll find it harder to learn and improve).

As for the game itself - I'll try and give it a whirl at some point and give some feedback, but tbh FPS's aren't really my thing.

Reading the About Us section gives me some hefty Glitchless flashbacks.
