Here is my point of view.
I have worked at nearly fucking everywhere going back 28 years - but he was before me - to the point where That Imagine thing was on TV, when I knew about imagine, and bought their games, loved their games, but was a user back then with some ideas...

Now apparently he was fundimental in getting that brand off the ground.

When I was a small kid - Imagine was the best ever games firm in england - My richer friend - an only child btw - talked his parents into getting him a Spectum, and Zzoom ( by imagine).

Imagine was a huge firm back then - to the point where a tv show turned up to see these geniuses that did the good games ( and there was many good games - ZZoom - arcadia - way too many to mention.

In fact most of the programming talent there went on to make denten designs and psygnosis.

Bruce wasn't involved with the planning - he was the PR guy.
And I think he did a decent job.

I know he went from there to codemasters - at the time a small place - and i really don't know what happened there - i know it made big, but everyone that ever met him there and since, seems to despice him..

I repeat that I have never met him, and I can't vouch for him on a personal level - but when he does talk about the industry "back then" - well - I can listen to him - he's got a few years over me, and not many people have.

And if he's still doing it now, maybe without a job - for fuck sake - let him - who are we to criticise? We've all been without a job.

    bah :)

I have worked at more than Imagine and Codemasters (two stints, one in the mid 80s again in the early 00s). Amongst other things there were also: 1978 Microdigital in Liverpool, one of the first computer stores. http://zxgoldenyears.net/everiss.html Liverpool Software Gazette, an early computer magazine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_Software_Gazette Ladbroke Group, where I worked in their consumer electronic retail division (Laskys). Database Publications (Europress) Magazine publisher. DAMS. Office equipment suppliers who made some microcomputer peripherals. Tansoft. Game publisher. Bug Byte. Game publisher. Dennis Publishing. Where I did the business plan for Microscope. Oxford Computer Publishing. Serious applications on the Spectrum. Miles Gordon Technology. Makers of the Sam Coupe. All Formats Computer Fairs. Many hundreds of these one day events. Recently I have done work for an American venture capitalist, a Korean start up and one of the largest MMO publishers. I have written for Popular Computing Weekly, Personal Computer World, Microscope, CTW and MCV. Currently I have regular articles published in Seeking Alpha and iStock Analyst, both in America. Also I run http://www.artforums.co.uk/forums/ an online community for practising visual artists.

Then there is the undeniable success of Bruceongames.com. It gets about half the traffic of MCV and about a third the traffic of Gamesindustry.biz. But they are professional, staffed sites. To put this in context Bruceongames had 3,790 visitors yesterday. There are many blogs about video games, however not many are written from the inside. And most of those tend to be about development. Bruceongames is one of only a handful of game publishing blogs. Two issues championed by Bruceongames have now hit the mainstream agenda, the tax treatment of the UK video game industry and the need for a game council. I had these as an issue when I was a member of the joint DTI/industry Game Council 8 years ago. Likewise Bruceongames has dozens of articles about the treatment of games by politicians and the media. When everyone else was ignoring the issues. Only recently this has reached the UK political conciousness. Partly as a result of politicians reading my blog and partly as a result of me talking to them individually.

Sorry to take away from your argument, Bruce, but that was funny :D

    I'm still giggling away.

Which politicians read your blog and can you verify that? And which politicians did you speak to individually and lobby? It's pretty interesting to be able to change (even if it is slowly) the industry in a positive way.

That is very cool Bruce. I think you should be doing articles about how we can all work on targeting an issue in the industry and lobbying. It'd be great!

I have an undeniably large penis. It's about 60% the size of Jeff Striker's penis, but he's a professional porn star, while I'm just a nob.

Please let others do the praising for you. Self praise on its own is a bit sad, arrogant and annoying. Oh, wait... I see a correlation.

zzoom was the first computer game i ever bought.

    It was a huge disappointment.

I bought it cos of the marketing.

And now nearly 30 years later, it turns out that was Bruce's fault!
