Yes Crackdown used renderware. I would hope that the licensing cost was included in the 20 million.

GTA4 has been touted as the most expensive game ever:

Whether that is true or just bluster I have no idea.

As for GT5 - its still in development so I don't see how you can know short of developing a time machine ;)

Crackdown used Renderware 4 but development of it by EA was abandoned part way through. There's still a lot of it in there but the actual rendering part of it was mostly replaced. We did quite a bit of work on that.

As well as RTW's direct costs MS paid some extra money to bring in contractors like us to work on some of the game's technical issues. We also supplied staff working on project management, art and design.

I've no idea if the RTW's $20m is correct but it's likely that the end figure may even be a bit higher than that if you count the money paid on development staff by the publisher.

People have estimated GTA4 being around 100million.

'Overall, Grand Theft Auto IV took over 1000 people and more than three and a half years to complete, with a total cost estimated at approximately $100 million, making it the most expensive game ever developed'
