Hi, im looking into studying computer science at Uni and then enter the games industry afterwards. I didn't want to apply to one of the games technology courses as they seem to be getting a bad rep and also i want a degree that will allow me to get a job in a different industry if i have to.

However I found a course at sussex called Games and Multimedia Environments. (It wont let me post the link but its in the undergrad/Comp Sci section of their website)

So im looking for advice and your thoughts on this course. Does this look like a better option than the other games technology courses and still give me the skills that a Comp Sci course would?

    Thanks ^^

Haven't heard of it and the title puts me off straightaway. If you want to do a games course, look at Derby and Hull. Bolten isn't bad (second hand information).

If you do CS, then make sure it is from a good University. Just as there are bad games courses, there are bad CS courses.

    Is it this one? http://139.184.32.141/study/ug/2011/1512/23193

The acronym is GAME which is a big turn off already, if you have to be clever with the name then it's just marketing.

Basically both courses point to exactly the same stuff....so I can't see in Sussex's case what the difference is.....

Personally out of tradition I'd go comp sci, but in this case you definitely need to contact them and find out what the differences are actually in the course.

I'd recommend going 'straight' comp-sci myself as it might make life simpler for you if later in life you decide to work outside of 'games'.

(as for the area - I went to Brighton Uni myself and loved that neck of the woods)
