to be vaguely sensible (even in a troll thread.. i know - schoolboy error ) I think my dads reasoning for his last console purchase is an example of the problem with the 3DS at the moment.

Mentally for a lot of folks the handheld is seen as some kind of inferior subset of the console. It's what you 'make do with' when you aren't around 'the real thing', So with that in mind it should be cheaper than the home console. If the home console is cheaper they'll just say 'bugger that' and get the wii instead, assuming they don't already have one.

both the DS and the PSP were pricier than both the Gamecube and the PS2, during the launch of the portables.

the DS was the same price as the 3DS
the PSP was quite more expensive.
