If you don't mind, I would like to post a survey. I'm going to use these results for part of a general research topic of mine for my Popular Culture class.

    2. Which of these emotions do you feel most often when playing games? (Choose up to three)

I guess it would depend on the game, but I would rate it around 3 for sometimes/most times

Anger, exitement, fustration, happiness, fear and not often enough, surprise.

Frustration and annoyance particularly if you've been trying to solve/overcome it for a while. There is the initial thrill of excitement when you first encounter it, but it can be washed away very quickly

It would depend on the game. Sometimes cheated..."Is that all??", sometimes annoyed..."You've got to be kidding me, I spent all that time for this??", but mostly relief..."Finally..." coupled with a feeling of accomplishment, if I've not been cheated...

Depends on the game, lets face it, tetris doesn't need a story to be a good game...

Challenge. There needs to be something to make you want to play, to improve, to push forward
    Reward - for your effort
Story - While not an important part of all games, I personally like a good story, something that you can see unfold through the game play and interaction with the other characters, but something you can have some control over as well.

FPS, RPGs and some arcade style...especially with friends and family

Thinly vialed plots wrapped around poorly designed game play. Sometimes you could get away with poorly designed game play, but when they attempt to hide behind a plot line that does not connect or make scene to what you've been doing...it just stabs at you and causes more frustration...

Poor adaptations (particularly to movies) :deadcrab:

Anything that has obviously been hobbled together without thought simply to make money (see previous sentence) :deadhorse:

    Hope that helps

    1. When playing games, how often is an emotion invoked? (1=Never, 5= All the time)
Three, if the question is referring to the frequency. Games are like emotional roller coasters!

    2. Which of these emotions do you feel most often when playing games?
    Excitement, Happiness

    3. How do you feel when you get stuck in a game? (Due to a challenging riddle/puzzle, difficult enemies, etc.)
    Interested or frustrated

    4. How do you feel once you finish a game?
Like I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is playing a new game… or satisfied.

    5. What are the 3 elements of a game that you consider to be the most important?
    Controls, Gameplay, Audio

    6. What genres of games do you play the most often?
    Shooters, Platformers, RPGs

    7. What kinds of games do you not enjoy at all?
Bad ones! Or any game with either unresponsive controls, boring gameplay, or cheating AI. (I find Sports and RTS games the least interesting.)

    - Frustration
    - Happiness
    - Surprise

    3. How do you feel when you get stuck in a game? (Due to a challenging riddle/puzzle, difficult enemies, etc.)
    - Frustrated, if this feeling continues for too long and there is no way of making some sort of progress then I normally 'can' the game in question.

    4. How do you feel once you finish a game?
    - Pleased, its a very rare feeling these days apart from anything else :D

    5. What are the 3 elements of a game that you consider to be the most important?
    Gameplay, gameplay and err gameplay.

    6. What genres of games do you play the most often?
Sports Management, Turn based strategy and FPS.

    7. What kinds of games do you not enjoy at all?
Driving games - they're generally much too 'twitch based' for someone with poor reactions like myself (I play FPS games solo as 'strategy games' by doing things by the numbers and crunching the AI if you wondered - makes up for my poor reactions and I can beat most FPS games like this).

    Satisfied and accomplished

-Game mechanics (Can I do what I (think I) need to?)
-Difficulty balance (Am I in the sweet spot between boredom and frustration otherwise known as enjoyment?)
-Aesthetics. Whether the game has fancy-ass 3D whiz-bang graphics or stick figures, having video and audio that fit the design really add something big to a game (Would Paper Mario be as charming if it looked like a traditional RPG?) Hell, the Hyrule Theme in Twilight Princess is enough to get me riled up to play for another hour.

    -Turn-based strategy
    -Platformers
    -FPS

Tough to say. If I *had* to choose, I guess I'd choose the modern idea of a 3D beat'em up (think Devil May Cry or God of War) There are exceptions, though.

    1. When playing games, how often is an emotion invoked?
    3
Simpler emotions like fear or excitement happen a lot, but more complex ones like jealously or sadness not so much mainly because they're harder to do.

    2. Which of these emotions do you feel most often when playing games?

    - Excitement
    - Frustration
    - Fear/Horror

    3. How do you feel when you get stuck in a game? (Due to a challenging riddle/puzzle, difficult enemies, etc.)

Depends on the game design. If I know what I need to do in the puzzle but I'm just not being clever enough, no problem at all (e.g. Braid). Similar with combat - if I died because I did something dumb and I can replay the section trying a different tactic that's fine. It can be really satisfying when you complete these kinds of challenges. I generally only get frustrated if it's not clear at all what you're meant to do, or if something is just stupidly punishing and you can't approach the problem in a different way.

    4. How do you feel once you finish a game?

Satisfied. If the game escalated correctly towards the end of the experience then this feeling is increased.

    5. What are the 3 elements of a game that you consider to be the most important?

    Gameplay.
    Atmosphere.
    Innovation.

    6. What genres of games do you play the most often?

    Action/adventure/horror

    7. What kinds of games do you not enjoy at all?

Games that present exactly the same gameplay I've seen before.

Can I also have 'boredom' and 'disgust'?
    Determined (to overcome the problem).
Depends on the game. Sometimes relieved (bad game), sometimes a sense of achievement and satisfaction (good game).
Difficult question. Probably an involving theme or narrative that appeals to my interests, mechanics that are well communicated but have a hidden depth that can be explored and mastered, and intuitive controls that don't require you to be a contortionist or have 8 limbs
    Action, adventure, RPG.
    Simulations. Primarily sport and racing.
